Rivian, a prominent player in the electric vehicle industry, is gearing up for major expansion despite being a relatively recent entrant. Established in 2009, the brand made significant waves in 2021 by launching the first fully electric pickup truck for consumers. Building on this success, Rivian is now unveiling its latest offerings in the form of the R2, R3, and R3X models.
While Rivian has previously focused on full-size SUVs and pickup trucks, the latest additions mark the brand's entry into the midsize vehicle segment. The R2 is a midsize SUV, while the R3 is a midsize crossover, designed to cater to performance enthusiasts, urban commuters, and off-road adventurers alike. These models will be available with two different battery sizes, with the larger option boasting a range of over 300 miles on a single charge and acceleration from 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds. Customers can choose from single, dual, or tri-motor configurations to suit their preferences.
RJ Scaringe, the Founder and CEO of Rivian, emphasized the brand's commitment to innovation and accessibility with the new models. He expressed, "R2 and R3 embody Rivian's signature blend of performance, capability, and user-friendliness, all offered at price points that cater to a wide audience. Our teams are dedicated to pushing the boundaries not only in terms of product features but also in streamlining our manufacturing processes to achieve significant cost reductions."
The R2 is slated to have a starting price of $45,000 USD, with the R3 priced slightly lower. Consumers can expect to see these vehicles on the roads starting in 2026, as Rivian continues to make strides in the electric vehicle market.
