The ruling was made by US District Judge Analisa Torres, who stated that there is no substantial similarity between the two works. According to Rolling Stone, Judge Torres emphasized that the musical composition of Perry's soulful track contrasts with "The Box," which falls under the genre of hip-hop and features a monotone rap delivery. 

Furthermore, she highlighted the difference in beats per minute (BPM), with "Come on Down" being at 96 BPM and "The Box" at 58 BPM. 

Additionally, the judge noted that while the former heavily incorporates acoustic instruments, the latter relies on a synthesizer. Apart from the musical aspects, Judge Torres emphasized the difference in themes and subject matter between the two songs. "Come on Down" was described as a sentimental piece centered around love and heartbreak, while "The Box" is a more braggadocious track that focuses on wealth accumulation, relationships with multiple partners, and surpassing other rappers in skill. 

Considering these significant dissimilarities, Judge Torres concluded that an average listener would not perceive the aesthetic appeal of the two songs as the same. The plaintiff in the case failed to provide sufficient evidence that the defendants copied any protected portion of the musical composition.  

This ruling settles the copyright infringement lawsuit in favor of Roddy Ricch, affirming the distinctiveness of his hit song "The Box."
